Heritage & Architecture

A Century of Championship Golf

Designed in 1922 by the legendary firm of Langford & Moreau, the Texarkana Country Club course stands as one of the finest examples of Golden Age golf architecture in the American South. The duo's hallmark — deep, artfully shaped bunkers and boldly contoured greens — is on full display across all eighteen holes.

The course earned the nickname “Little Augusta” for its cathedral-like setting among towering pines, its immaculate conditioning, and the strategic demands it places on every level of golfer. It was here that a young Byron Nelson served as club professional in 1934, honing the game that would make him one of golf's immortals.

In 2000, renowned architect Ron Prichard completed a faithful restoration, returning the course to Langford & Moreau's original vision — recovering lost bunkers, restoring green contours, and reintroducing the strategic options that define great golf architecture.

Holes That Made History

Hole 14 - The All-American Hole at Texarkana Country Club
14
The All-American Hole
Par 4 · 441 Yards

The crown jewel of Texarkana Country Club. This legendary dogleg-right par 4 was once named among the top 18 holes in America — earning the title "The All-American Hole." The tee shot must thread between mature trees, while the approach plays to an elevated green protected by Langford's deepest and most artfully placed bunkers. Standing on this tee, you're walking in the footsteps of Byron Nelson himself.

Hole 16 - Nelson's Legacy at Texarkana Country Club
16
Nelson's Legacy
Par 5 · 560 Yards

Where history lives. On this majestic par 5, a young Byron Nelson struck one of the most famous shots in club history — a double eagle that still echoes through the pines. The hole bends gracefully right, with a creek guarding the approach to a well-bunkered green. It's a hole that demands both power and finesse, just as it did in Nelson's day.

Course Character

What sets Texarkana Country Club apart from every other course in the region.

Cathedral Pines

Towering longleaf pines line every fairway, creating the cathedral-like atmosphere that earned the course its "Little Augusta" nickname.

Water in Play

A prominent lake defines the front nine, while meandering creeks thread through the back nine — water comes into play on eleven of eighteen holes.

Langford Bunkers

Deep, steeply faced bunkers with ragged edges are the Langford & Moreau signature. Each one is placed with surgical precision to test your nerve and your sand game.

Contoured Greens

The TifDwarf Bermuda putting surfaces roll true and fast, with subtle Langford contours that reveal themselves only after your ball is in motion.

Ron Prichard Restoration

The 2000 restoration by Ron Prichard brought back lost features and returned the course to its original 1922 strategic brilliance.

Byron Nelson Heritage

Walk the same fairways where Lord Byron served as club pro in 1934 — including the par 5 where he struck his legendary double eagle.
